Taps at Twilight: A Patriotic Evening at Saint Simons Island

Taps at Twilight on Saint Simons Island is a memorial event of profound solemnity and respect, held annually on Memorial Day to honor the men and women who have served and sacrificed in the United States Armed Forces. This poignant event is hosted by the local Rotary Club as a tribute to the men and women who have served and sacrificed in the United States Armed Forces. The ceremony is marked by the playing of “Taps,” a bugle call played at dusk, during funerals, and at memorial services. Taps at Twilight combines patriotic music, flag presentations, and speeches to create a reflective atmosphere that honors the bravery and dedication of military personnel, past and present, fostering a deep sense of community and national pride among attendees.

And join us for an evening of commemoration and community spirit at “Taps at Twilight,” happening on May 27, 2024, at Neptune Park on Saint Simons Island, Georgia. The event kicks off at 5:45 p.m. with a stirring lineup of performances and presentations.
The Golden Isles Community Band will set the patriotic tone of the evening with a selection of music starting at 5:45 p.m. The night will also feature notable speakers and performers, including Vice Admiral Al Konetzni (Ret.), former commodore of Submarine Squadron 16, who will serve as the guest speaker.
Musical highlights include bagpipe melodies by Scott Townley and the national anthem beautifully rendered by Michael Hulett. A solemn floral wreath presentation will be made by St. Simons Rotarian and West Point graduate, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Dick James. The event will conclude with a poignant performance of “Taps” by Ann Marie Stirewait from The Golden Isles Brass Choir.
This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets, as seating is not provided. Come and be part of this memorable twilight tribute to honor our community and nation.
